"The most exciting thing to me is to see so many young people take the entrepreneurial leap in an effort to revitalize the towns they grew up in or have adopted as their homes. They see their business as a way to both make a profit and to build a community. That's the spirit that will allow all parts of our state to continue to thrive."

That was Paul's reaction after touring a number of small businesses from La Crescent to Preston with candidate Thomas Trehus, listening to owners about their challenges and opportunities. Visits included Kaddy Kafe in La Crescent, The Wire Rooster in Caledonia, and Blossom Hill Orchard and Farm in Preston as well as AcenTek, a broadband and phone coop in Houston for a discussion of broadband expansion.
